Franklin Game Reserve

Bloemfontein

Established in 1930, this is one of the few city wildlife reserves in the world. The 250 ha reserve is situated in the heart of Bloemfontein and boasts an amazing array of wildlife including giraffe, blue wildebeest, zebra and a huge variety of bird species including the karoo scrub robin, violet-eared waxbills and lots more.

The reserve was named after Sir John Stuart Franklin – the mayor of Bloemfontein during the 1920’s.

Within the reserve you can take a relaxing day drive up to Naval Hill, to enjoy the wonderful views from this point. Picnics can also be enjoyed within the reserve.
